The Metz Pontifical was made in Northern France, half of it is now in Prague, Czech Republic, and the other half is in Cambridge, England. It is one of the most luxuriously illuminated manuscripts of its type to survive. Work on the manuscript stopped in upon the death.

    The Metz Pontifical, c. , made for Renaud de Bar, Bishop of Metz. The manuscript is unfinished and shows illuminatons that have been drawn, but not yet painted. Rounded Textura. Several other restrictions distinguish the pontifical Mass of such inferior prelates from that of bishops or cardinals. The "Canon" is a liturgical book containing nothing but the Canon of the Mass, A grant of dalmatic and sandals to the Abbot of Metz is recorded in the year [FACSIMILES].
